Murchison Falls safari

Murchison falls National park lies in Masindi and Amur districts Northwest of Uganda. The park has spectacular beautiful falls that have been a major attraction to the park for many years and definitely nature’s greatest gift to exhaust one’s adventurous spirit making it the number one stop national park in Uganda.

The park is most popular for its diversity of animal and bird species immersed in the sprawling wooden savannah grasslands plus the famous borassus palm and acacia trees. During your 3-day tour, you will be ushered to hike to the iconic Murchison falls for breathtaking views of the magnificent falls showcasing its daily rainbow and thunderous blasts way into the Nile. The boat ride on river Nile is ideal for wildlife spotting like the sunbathing crocodiles, white and black colobus and finally go for a game drive to explore more of the wildlife in the open savannah.

DAY 1: Drive to Murchison falls National Park, hike on top of the falls.

Pick up from your hotel by your driver/ Guide at around 6:30 and start the approximately a 6-hour journey drive to Uganda’s biggest national park. You will go through Luwero and later have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking, here you will find both black and white rhinos. After tracking, you will have another stopover at Masindi where you will have lunch and proceed to the park. After clearance, you are immediately ushered into the wildlife park by a number of stubborn baboons lining up the road.  A hike at the top of the falls will give you majestic awe at the Nile forcing its way through a gap in the rocks in an 8m gorge, gushing down in a rambling melody before flowing westwards into Lake Albert which is a beautiful sight with incredible picture moments.

Later drive to the lodge and relax the whole evening, have dinner and overnight.

         Accommodations:

         Bakers lodge(luxury)

         Pakuba game lodge(mid-range)

         Heritage safari lodge(budget).

DAY 2: MORNING GAME DRIVE AND AFTERNOON BOAT CRUISE ON LAKE VICTORIA

Breakfast will be served at around 6:30 am. The early game drive is a better time for the great sighting of the nocturnal animals and the hunters before they return to their hideouts as well as the early risers. The Nile that crosses the park bisects it into the south and north sections. The north section is more endowed with games compared to the south but in case your reservation is in the southern section; you will get a ferry crossing to the northern section for the game drive package.  Explore the major game trails especially around the area of Paara for good game spotting such as elephants, lions, giraffes, kobs, hartebeest, and hopefully the elusive leopards among others.  At around 11:00 am, you will return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation for an indefinitely short time. Later you will set out for the afternoon boat ride on Victoria Nile which is a high spot for wildlife species at a clear and close encounter. You will spot hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes and many other animal species that come to quench their thirst and cool themselves off the scorching sun and some who come to eat the fresh grass along the river banks. The Nile is also a bird magnet whereby you will get a chance of seeing many bird species. You will also be shown the crush point of Ernest Hemingway. The ride takes you close to the base of Murchison falls and here you are treated to yet another sight of the lovely falls. You could hike to the top of the falls before the return ride, then ride back to the lodge for your dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: MORNING GAME DRIVE AND TRANSFER TO PREFERRED DESTINATION

Wake up and have an early morning breakfast, check out of the lodge and then embark on the journey back to your destination driving through the park to the Wankwar gate. And if you are lucky, you might get a chance to see more wildlife as you exit the park. You will also get a chance to see Karuma falls and have a few minutes stop to marvel at the beauty of the falls while you extract some exciting facts about them from the tour guide. Continue to your preferred destination with a lunch stop .
